So its here, the Raspberry Pi has been revealed. The credit card sized ARM-based device is now available to the public

Sales are being handled by Premier Farnell and RS Components though 40 mins into launch I am yet to see any news off twitter from somebody successfully making a purchase as both companies sites are being totally hammered. Boy am I glad I’m not the tech monkey in charge of repairing this one.

Initally The Pi will be available in a single configuration known as the Model B which has two USB slots, 256MB of Ram, an HDMI connector, a SD memory card slot and an Ethernet port at the cost of 21.60.

Model A has been updated to include 256MB of ram, up from what was initially announced 128MB and will be available later on this year, around the educational launch.

Specs are now the same as Model B but the A doesn’t have ethernet and only 1 USB port.

You can purchase a Pi from either of the links bellow

and

Apparently according to the charities official twitter account Farnell could be have been out of stock as early as 6:25am.

As of 6:40 it has been announced that enthusiastic crowds baring torches have effectively DDOS’d both companies site. Brilliant little device wouldn’t you say? I can’t wait to get my hands on one and give it to the kids to see what they think.

UPDATE
It looks like Farnell has dropped this one… I just managed to connect to the shop and the Model B was listed as on sale for £14 but unavailable.

UPDATEUPDATE
So many Pi fans are leaving the table unsatisfied, some even going as far as to slam the foundation for being unprepared. At least the foundations own website was able to handle the stress. It is a shame their partners couldn’t.

All jokes aside though, this is brilliant for the foundation. A DDoS on two companies and a total sellout (if I had to guess) in less than an hour so expect media coverage to follow. I mean more coverage other than from a pokey little site like this.

Now that I have gathered everything I needed for the day and was unable to get a Pi for the kids… Im going to bed. I’m not looking forward to seeing this page when I resurface… The abuse to written English will amaze me I’m sure.

Raspberry Pi Launches 6am GMT tomorrow. Pay attention folks this little $25 ARM based computer is going to be EPIC. I imagine it to be the BBC micro of today. This thing is going to be epic for education, for somebody that wants to code, folks short on cash or somebody that just wants a new toy.

You can find this little gem over at

Go over, send them some love and give them your money… leave with a device that I believe could change the world.

Postal 3 Finally available through Steam

Posted: February 24, 2012 by Sk4zZi0uS in Uncategorized

Ok so its not finally available. You have been able to pick up the game through Steam using a serial code that you could purchase directly from the developer but some people didn’t realize this and have been complaining that the game shouldn’t be listed as available on steam when there is no way to purchase it. Now the game has an official price on Steam at £29.99, you no longer have to go to RWS to pick up this awesome game.

Purchase Postal III from Steam directly and show The Dude and RWS some love…

I unbox the GoPro HD Hero 2 and explains its uses and how I will personally use it.

Getting a little thin

Okay things are starting to get a little thin around here recently since Jelly is left and I figured leaving that post up was starting to get a little bit depressing (jelly zeros leaving post)

So what’s been going on, where is everybody, why has nothing been posted on the site.

I have to be honest I can’t really say all that much for the other editors of the big nerd show but I know all the jelly has left again and am not too sure if and when he’ll come back but that’s not problem because I know that life outside of TBNS comes before the site itself. The jelly, doing this kind of thing just wasn’t fun any more even though this site was mainly set up to satisfy his desire to write and become a journalist of sorts. Either way jelly was to focus on his career and start family and I respect that.

I haven’t been posting anything because I’ve had a few technical difficulties. Just before New Year my wife was taken into hospital, very unwell and unable to get out of bed so I focus before Christmas and just after New Year has been on nothing but my wife and my children. As well as obvious health concerns I’m due in for surgery myself at the end of this month and to be honest I’m really not looking forward to. Aside from health obviously, the technical being that my Internet connection as some of you may know has been atrocious, most of the time running around 56K at best. It’s not a case of upload being a problem is that is normally stable, but my download has been so poor that I’ve been unable to even log into the website. Even when my connection says it is running a normal optimum speed there are many random timeouts which have made Internet near enough unusable. Fear not as virgin media my ISP have claimed still be in the area to fix the problem January 11th (though they have made promises like this before) so hopefully they get this fixed, I mean it’s only taken a year.

I have tried to tasks and work out to the other writers of The Big Nerd Show but so far no shiny content has been produced. Over the coming months though we are looking to bring in some new writers, eager to write about their own passions.

At the moment I’m considering even asking twitters the Matt Denton to post up a few videos and articles for us. No idea what he will say, but hopefully we can have a friendly alliance between TBNS and GamerRage.co.uk

(More to come shortly it’s getting late I have to get to bed)

2011: The Year Of The Nerd (My Goodbyes)

Posted: January 1, 2012 by jakejaylee in Uncategorized

Lets just forget the real stories of 2011; the London Riots, the Royal Wedding, Gaddafi’s death, the European States financings crashing all over the place and everything else that really happened and focus on the dull year that 2011 really was for nerd!

There was aload of great comicbook movies like the great Thor, the “should of been a TV movie” Captain America and the beloved before anyone saw it, Green Lateran. To be fair, the only reason Thor was great was because every fucker believed it was going to be crap and it wasn’t. By no means was the movie really that good, but when compared with the other comic movies it was damn good. This was also the point I stopped reading comics, wow I was growing up.

There was great news for the British Sci-Fi fans out there, Dave would be making a new season of Red Dwarf! Oh yay, it’s not like the last TV special wasn’t just a rip off from earlier work and that the later (post season 5) episodes weren’t the biggest let down in British comedy. Will I watch it this year? Well yes, I’m a fan of Red Dwarf, but will I stop watching it if it’s just a crap rip off/waste of time/plain rubbish? Well yeah, I will. There are better shows around these days…

This year was great for gamers. If you like having numbers like 2… or 3… or 5 after the name of the game. The iOS scene is where the real new games are coming from but with the likes of Infinity Blade 2 (which IS a good game) or Modern Combat 3 it looks to be following the console and PC gaming space. People wonder why I was put off gaming. I will say that games like Portal 2 are superb, but it’s not better than Portal and that says it all. Also if we are going to have games with numbers in them, where the FUCK is Half Life 2 Episode 3?

2011 is also the last year that I was a journalist. I started in 2004 as a ranter. I work through companies like Future Publishing to IGN and GameSpot and then to co-founding this very site, The Big Nerd Show. I am retiring from journalism so I can focus on my family and my career. This post if my last post as a full time Big Nerd Show Employee, I will still post and maybe turn up once in a blue moon in a video or podcast but this is it for me as a full time writer. One of the main reasons for this is that I play games to relax and I have lost that, the last 7 years I have been playing games to write about them and they lost there fun. Enjoy 2012, I know this site is in great hands and I look forward to popping up here and there to poke your eyes with some witty bullshit.

the.Nerd.view: Doctor Who

Posted: April 30, 2011 by jakejaylee in Uncategorized

The Silence? Really? Your kidding me right. It’s all some kind of joke. I mean, instead of being back one of the all time greatest Doctor Who baddies in the form of Omega, who’s MO is to take control of the TARDIS and make people hear voices, you sided with a new bad. The Silence, one of the worse names I have ever, ever heard.

Yes, I was one of those people you watched the end of the last season and said to myself: “Awesome the Big Bang gives the writers a way to start the universe again with the Time Lords and Daleks still alive and kicking, without the Time War bullshit. Without shoe-horning the Daleks into the show every fucking season!”

Also, the classic bads kick the ass of the new. That’s a fact.

I mean if they didn’t why do the shoe-horn the Daleks into every new season. Even though by the storyline they shouldn’t be there. It makes no sense. I can’t wait for the Cybermen to return, because they have to use the classic Cybers or again it will make no bloody sense. Then again I guess these days the writers on Doctor Who care more about the mindfuck than the storyline.

Who is River Song? I know, she’s River Song, that’s her name. As she says, her timeline is going in the other way to the Doctor, why can’t she just be River Song. Why does she have to be Amy’s child. You know, that child with the regeneration powers. Oh wait, what?Again with the mindfucks.

I love Doctor Who, always have. When I watch the show I don’t tend to care or notice these issues, when I come from the TV and think about what I have seen, it doesn’t make sense…
